Carspotting: This Lexus CT 200h F SPORT

Finding new appreciation for Lexus' compact hybrid hatch in DTLA.

So this one time while walking through the Arts District of downtown Los Angeles, I happened to look to my left and saw this Lexus CT 200h F SPORT looking kind of… good.

(And yes, the sport part of F SPORT is supposed to be all-caps. At the time of publication, it’s literally my job to write about Lexus, for Lexus, and my brain won’t allow me to write something that’s not product-correct.)

Anyway… I was one of the many who found the CT to be underwhelming when new. It was small, shared an underpowered hybrid powertrain with the Prius of the time, and lacked the presence of sportier Lexus contemporaries like the GS-F. But now I kind of find myself wanting one, and this CT 200h F SPORT finished in Eminent White Pearl is the exact one I’d want. It’d be nice to have a daily made this century, and it would be even better to get one that gets 40-ish MPG. I also now view its small size as a benefit, as I don’t need the stresses of a modern-day behemoth when all I need is a commuter.

Too bad these stopped being sold in North America in 2017. Part of my desire for a newer daily is due to the fact that parts are no longer made for the one I currently have, and I can’t imagine that there’s a robust supply chain of new parts for cars that went out of production a decade ago. That means I’ll probably never buy one of these, but at least I have this picture.

Speaking of which, and to get to the camera nerdery: this was shot with a Ricoh GRIII Street Edition and is a straight-out-of-camera jpeg with the Royal Supra preset applied. Obviously cropped in for the top photo, with the original the full 28mm wide shot below.
