I get that this isn’t a car photo, but it is a photo of a gas station, and cars go to gas stations. So I mean, the logic of its inclusion here tracks, right? Anyway, let’s take a break from talking only about cars and instead talk about photography.
Assuming what I see online is accurate—and we all know that the internet never lies—to be considered influential in the world of photography, you need to possess a mastery of the following:
- Film photography
- Shooting photos of gas stations at night, ideally on film
- Shooting photos of Japan, ideally on film
- Shooting photos with a Leica, ideally one that uses film
Well, I guess three out of four ain’t bad. I’ll never be able to afford a Leica, but this photo gets me 75 percent of the way to being a respected(?) photography influencer.
Anyway, here’s a photo of an Apollo Station, found somewhere between the JR Otsuka station and Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan. Was shot with an old hand-me-down Minolta X-300 and some Marix 800T. My TIFF scan looks great, don’t know what happened with the compression here. I should hire a professional someday to help me figure this stuff out. Don’t ask me about settings because the only thing I remember is that I set the camera to Aperture Priority mode.
